What to do and see in Chianti and beyond
One of the reasons to plan your stay in the Chianti countryside at Il Vichiaccio is the chance to choose among many unforgettable activities and experiences nearby: from riding the white roads of Chianti, made famous by the Eroica race, to driving a Cinquecento or a Vespa, to horseback riding.

For astronomy lovers, the Osservatorio Polifunzionale del Chianti near San Donato in Poggio, set in a beautiful natural park. A short walk from Il Vichiaccio leads to the observatory of Torre di Luciana: torreluciana.it.
For those who prefer travelling on foot, the local tourist office has leaflets for self-guided walks, or you can follow the routes organised by Le Vie del Chianti along ancient trails of the wine region.
Il Vichiaccio is an ideal base to explore the Chianti Classico region, which includes Radda in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti and Gaiole in Chianti (province of Siena), as well as San Casciano Val di Pesa, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, Greve in Chianti and part of Barberino Val d'Elsa (province of Florence) — the production area of "Chianti Classico", recognisable by the Black Rooster (Gallo Nero) logo.
Our suggestion is to go directly to the wineries to taste the wine produced there — often paired with local specialities such as cheese, salami and ham with Tuscan bread, or Cantuccini with Vin Santo. Look for the "Degustazione" (tasting) signs along the Chianti wine roads.
A short walk through the vineyards leads to Castello di Gabbiano, or, at the bottom of the main road, to the Castelli del Grevepesa — perfect even if you're travelling without a car.
